LABUAN BAJO, 16 August 2026 – Bina Nusantara University (Binus) is actively participating in the grand Golo Koe Festival 2026, held at Waterfront City, Labuan Bajo, from August 10 to 15, 2026. This involvement serves as a tangible manifestation of the university’s mission to foster and empower the community in a sustainable manner.
For this festival, themed “Communal Pilgrimage in Synergistic Partnership to Care for the Integrity of Creation,” Binus collaborated with the organizing committee to set up five exhibition booths. These booths showcased a range of standout products from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) receiving direct guidance from the Binus team.
Strategic Collaboration with the Diocese and the Government
Binus’ involvement in West Manggarai actually started in 2024 through close collaboration with the local government, farmer groups and various other stakeholders. The main focus of this collaboration is increasing human resource (HR) capacity and developing MSME businesses to improve the welfare of local communities.
Binus is currently expanding the reach of its empowerment initiatives by providing guidance to parishes within the Diocese of Labuan Bajo. Twelve parishes have been identified as targets for Binus’s support project, which aims to enhance the capacity of the congregation and boost local economic potential at the grassroots level.
Binus representative Prof. Dezie L. Warganegara, PhD, explained that the synergy between religion, culture, and education is crucial for the sustainability of communities in super-priority tourism destinations such as Labuan Bajo.
“We want the local community to contribute to and benefit from the economic progress of Labuan Bajo, which has now reached a national level,” said Prof. Warga in an interview with Media Komsos Labuan Bajo.
According to him, the active involvement of the local community is key to ensuring sustainable tourism in West Manggarai. Through its participation in the Golo Koe Festival, Binus hopes to raise the profile of the products developed under its guidance while reinforcing the university’s role as a catalyst for change that directly impacts the broader community—aligning with its vision of empowerment.
